Kai C. Grensemann received his master’s degree. We congratulate him on this achievement!

His work paved the way for the test of local Lorentz invariance with a multi-ion Coulomb crystal to further enhance the sensitivity. His investigation on the rf composite pulse sequence and the field gradient necessary for the experiment provided important knowledge of the setup and promising implementation of coherent excitation of multiple ions via the electric octupole transition to the 2F7/2 state in 172Yb+.

The title of his thesis is

Scaling high-precision spectroscopy in Yb+ ions to Coulomb crystals for tests of local Lorentz invariance
