The Institute for Experimental Quantum Metrology was founded in 2009 as a joint institute of PTB and Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) with the aim of advancing time and frequency metrology and novel quantum technology with trapped ions. The institute consists of three independent research groups (RG): "Quantum Logic Spectroscopy" (RG QUEST 1 led by Prof. Dr. Piet O. Schmidt), "Quantum Clocks and Complex Systems" (RG QUEST 2 led by Prof. Dr. Tanja E. Mehlstäubler) and "Trapped-Ion Quantum Engineering" (RG QUEST 3 led by Prof. Dr. Christian Ospelkaus). Their shared research interest is the precise control of atomic quantum systems for metrology, tests of fundamental physics as well as the utilisation of many-body systems and quantum correlations for precision measurements.
